Recent research confirms our innate knowing that true healing most frequently happens within authentic, empathic relationship. Within the psychotherapeutic relationship my work is primarily influenced by transpersonal, existential-humanistic, and psychodynamic approaches. I also bring knowledge and skills from cognitive-behavioral and interpersonal neurobiology perspectives.
A strong therapeutic relationship can provide the space for an individual to discover his or her innate healing potential and move beyond limiting psychological patterns or histories and to embody their full potential. In my psychotherapeutic work with clients this process often includes attending to the impact of unresolved traumas or challenges, current day struggles, and psycho-spiritual potentials within us all.
In addition to my psychotherapy skills, I enjoy working with people of diverse cultural, and religious and spiritual backgrounds, including a special interest in the LGBT community. I prefer working with clients over a longer span of time to allow for the deeper possibilities of therapeutic work to emerge. My cognitive-behavioral skills, however, provide for short-term therapy potentials if needed and appropriate. I am available to work with individual adults and teens and couples.
To follow my interest in cultural and religious diversity as well as to add to our understanding of healing relationships, I performed my dissertation research on peace makers in the Middle East. This research received an academic excellence award.
My academic qualifications are:
- Ph.D. in Transpersonal Psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, 2006
- M.A.C.P. from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, 2003
- B.S. in Natural Resources from the University of Michigan, 1983
I have chosen psychology as my second career as I enter a time in my life when being of service to individual people is of primary importance to me. I currently live with my family and our dog on the peninsula.
